Fixes the root cause of #1461. The owner's Windows DEFAULT input was 'Microphone (USB Audio) (1188:9545)' — a USB speaker/dock exposing a mic endpoint with nothing plugged into it. It reports readyState:live, muted:false, and hands out a flat noise floor forever. The app recorded from the OS default, so it recorded digital silence while every health signal stayed green, then presented a hallucinated 'Thank you. Thank you.' transcript as a real meeting. Measured on his machine while he spoke: the three USB Audio endpoints peaked at 0.0057; the Logi C270 that actually hears him peaked at 0.1226. Now: if the active mic reads below the audible threshold for 20s of a LIVE recording, the engine probes the other inputs and switches to one that can hear you — mid-recording, without interrupting the recorder (reuses the existing rebind path). One attempt per recording; if NOTHING is audible it does not switch (a quiet room is not a dead mic — the silence warning owns that case). Deliberately not probing at start: at t=0 nobody is talking, so a healthy mic and a dead endpoint are indistinguishable. Probing only means something once there IS sound to hear. Verified: 95 files / 1102 desktop tests green, tsc clean, and the packaged renderer executes (#app-version reads v0.8.3, not the v0.0.0 placeholder).

Instrumented build to root-cause issue #1461 (recordings die ~1.4s in and record digital silence). Adds a per-second diagnostics line to capture-diagnostics.log in the profile dir while recording: mic/system RMS, both track states, whether the mic source node is still connected, AudioContext state, MediaRecorder state, chunk count, mic label. NO audio bytes are logged; the write is best-effort and can never disturb a live recording. Also: OS notifications are now English-only (UI-language policy), with a guard test so Hebrew cannot re-enter UI chrome. Verified on the packaged build: renderer executes (#app-version reads v0.8.2, not the v0.0.0 placeholder), and the diagnostics pipe writes renderer -> preload -> main -> disk.

HOTFIX for v0.8.0, which shipped a dead renderer. v0.8.0's minification step rewrote the renderer from ES modules to CommonJS. The renderer is loaded via <script type=module>, so require/exports threw on the first line and NO renderer code ran: every button was dead (Continue with Google did nothing) and the version displayed the hardcoded v0.0.0 placeholder. The main process was unaffected, which is why auto-update still worked. Fixed: minify in place without rewriting module format. Added a build-time guard that fails the build if the renderer entry is ever emitted as CommonJS, and scripts/smoke-packaged.mjs, which drives the PACKAGED app over CDP and asserts the renderer actually EXECUTED (#app-version must not read the v0.0.0 placeholder). Anyone on v0.8.0 should update immediately. Auto-update handles it.

Internal build from protokol@4ea5bb9e (master). Brings the Companion up to date with 54 desktop commits merged since v0.7.0 (2026-06-24): partial-recording integrity + reason-visible quarantine, the shared consent artifact, detector probe gating + persisted prompt dismissals, upload-queue hardening, and the terminal meeting result. Bundle hardened (PR #1460): no test files, no source maps, minified. UNSIGNED build - Windows SmartScreen warns on first manual install (More info -> Run anyway). Auto-update from v0.7.0 is silent and needs no certificate. On-device Whisper (whisper.cpp v1.9.1, SHA256-verified) is packaged.
